There a many types of apparatus which are used in tai chi practice. Some of these are:
- Sword (“straight sword” or “Jian”)
- Sabre (dao)
- spear (qiang)
- staff (gun)
- wind and fire wheels
Each style has its own variation of each weapon. In fact, the weapon routines of each style are seldom related to one another, coming not from a common tradition like the empty-handed routines. Rather, they are often adapted from other styles.
